Entre los integrantes del grupo comando que subió a la montaña la tarde del 25 de noviembre de 2017 Sergio Cavia, reconoció haber disparado su pistola reglamentaria Beretta 9 milímetros en el marco de lo que describió como "un enfrentamiento". Sus dichos tienen relevancia ya que, de acuerdo al conteo realizado en la pericia balística, el cargador de su arma estaba lleno.
