Los sacerdotes Pedro Ortiz de Zárate y Juan Antonio Solinas fueron martirizados mientras realizaban su labor misionera entre tobas, mocovíes y mataguayos en 1683. El cardenal Marcello Semeraro precisó que "fue el impulso misionero el que los condujo a un encuentro mutuo, juntos se pusieron al servicio del Evangelio y fueron fieles hasta el derramamiento de su sangre".
